Matthew Csabonyi - Board Approved Supervisor & Clinical Psychologist

I completed my own  2-year clinical registrar program in 2013 & 2014. I had just completed my clinical masters qualification and found myself in a very difficult public mental health role at a time when registrar supervision was not automatically provided by hospitals. To make matters more difficult, there weren't any clinical psychologists in the regional mental health service I was working for, and there were a plethora of ethical and clinical concerns in which I felt out of my depth.

Luckily for me, I was able to find a supervisor in private practice who was incredibly competent, warm, supportive and safe to talk to. I felt like she cared, not only about my career but about me as a person - I felt like she was in my corner. She was a much needed rock for me during my program and I credit a lot of my learning over those two years to her.

Now, as a supervisor of students, registrars and experienced psychologists myself, I aim to provide the competence, warmth, support, and safety that I benefited from during my program.

Clinical Registrar Program Supervision

Clinical registrar program supervision typically includes fortnightly supervision (or less if only secondary supervision is being provided) over a period of 1-2 years depending on your program requirements (see table).

Matthew Csabonyi is an experienced board-approved supervisor (Psychology Board of Australia) for trainee psychologists in the clinical psychology registrar program or bridging program. In addition to currently supervising clinical registrars in private practice, for the last several years he has spent his Fridays supervising clinical masters students and clinical bridging program students at The University of Melbourne. Prior to this, as a senior psychologist Matthew provided extensive supervision to registrars in public hospital settings including the Monash Gender Clinic, CATT, inpatient and community mental health programs.

Matthew is currently available to provide either primary or secondary supervision for your clinical registrar program.
